If you’re tired of loose dentures or frustrated with messy adhesives, there’s a modern alternative that combines the stability of implants with the removability and ease of dentures – Snap-On Dentures. Dr. Bonacci offers this innovative solution to patients looking for a more secure and natural-feeling option.

What Are Snap-On Dentures?

Snap-On dentures are a type of implant-supported denture that “snap” into place on dental implants in the jawbone. Unlike conventional dentures, which rest on the gums and may shift or cause discomfort, these dentures fasten to small connectors that attach to implants, providing improved stability. They’re removable by the patient for easy cleaning but remain firmly in place throughout the day.

Benefits of Snap-On Dentures

Snap-On dentures offer a long list of advantages over traditional dentures:

  • Increased stability and comfort
  • Better chewing ability and improved nutrition
  • No need for adhesives
  • Reduced bone loss by stimulating the jaw
  • A more natural look and feel
  • Improved speech clarity
  • Ability to eat the foods you enjoy (even tough or chewy foods)

Snap-On dentures are an excellent alternative for patients seeking a more affordable alternative to permanent, full-arch implant restorations while still enjoying many of the same benefits.

Other Types of Implant Retained Dentures

Dr. Bonacci also offers other forms of implant-supported dentures, including:

  • Fixed (permanent) implant dentures: These are non-removable by the patient and offer the highest level of stability.
  • Bar-retained overdentures: A metal bar is fixed to implants, and the denture clips onto it.
  • Locator-retained overdentures: Individual attachments connect the denture directly to each implant, as with Snap-On dentures.

Implant-Supported Overdentures offer you many advantages:

A cost-effective solution. When compared to some other implant-supported restoration methods, your new replacement teeth require fewer implants for each jaw. With fewer implants required, the cost is lowered.

Reduced need for bone grafting. The special angled placement of two of the implants ensures a secure and stable anchorage for the replaced arch, often making bone grafting unnecessary.

Faster treatment and healing time. Your replacement arch can be attached to your implants immediately after insertion.

Scientifically proven and documented, Implant-Supported Overdentures have had good clinical outcomes from decade-long studies with favorable results.

An Implant Supported Overdenture solution also ensures greater stability in the bone, reducing the need for bone graft surgery to increase bone volume. Implant-supported overdentures stay connected with bar and clip attachment methods or use a variety of abutment-based attachments (ball, magnets, and resilient stud attachments such as Locators).

The most appropriate attachment system for your individual needs relates to a variety of factors that is determined early in the treatment. Typically, a temporary set of teeth can be placed on the same day of surgery. The temporary teeth allow you to lead a normal life immediately after surgery. After a short healing period, your dentist will place the final bridge. Your quality of life is improved, and you can start enjoying your favorite foods again with renewed confidence.

Snap-On Denture FAQs

Are Snap-On dentures removable?

Yes. You can easily take them out at night for cleaning, but they stay secure during the day.

Do I need a full set of implants for Snap-On dentures?

No. Most patients only need 2–4 implants per arch, making it a more accessible option than full, fixed implant dentures. This also minimizes the need for invasive surgery and the risk of complications.

Can I sleep with my Snap-On dentures in place?

You can, on occasion, leave your dentures in place, but we recommend taking them out at night. This gives your gums and jaw a chance to rest and prevents excessive wear on the dentures, particularly if you grind or clench your teeth. While you are sleeping, soak your dentures to keep them clean and fresh.

Are Snap-On dentures painful to get?

You should not feel any pain during the implant placement procedure, which is performed under a local anesthetic and some form of anesthesia. You may experience some pain and swelling for 2-3 days following implant placement, but recovery is typically quick.

How long do Snap-On dentures last?

With oral hygiene and regular dental checkups, the implants can last a lifetime. The denture portion may need replacement every 10 to 15 years due to normal wear. If you take them out frequently throughout the day, you may need to replace them more often.
